About FiatAllis
Production of Fiat construction equipment started at the Fiat plant in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 1971. In 1974, In an attempt to conserve capital, conserve manufacturing capacity, and find the money necessary to compete in the global construction equipment market, Allis Chalmers signs a joint venture agreement with Italy's Fiat SpA, forming the Fiat-Allis construction equipment company. Allis Chalmers did not have the equipment sales volume to peform the research, development, and marketing required to effectively compete in the heavy construction equipment business with the likes of Caterpillar and International Harvester IH. Allis Chalmers held 35 of the stock in the newly formed Fiat-Allis, and Fiat held the rest.
On November 14, 1985 Allis-Chalmers announces that it has sold its remaining stake in the Fiat-Allis construction equipment joint venture to its partner, Fiat SpA. This sale effectively puts Allis-Chalmers out of the global construction equipment business for good. It would be in 1999 that the company officially closed for good.
Fiat-Allis was well known worldwide for their motor grader, wheel loader, crawler dozer, and thanks to a brief joint venture with O&K, and Hitachi, their excavator. Fiat-Allis bulldozer technology was largely due to the existing heritage, and quality from their parent company Allis Chalmers.
Fiat Allis crawler dozer models were FD80 FD145 FD175 FD195L FD255, and Fiat Allis crawler loader models were FL145 FL175.
FiatAllis North America, was the American subsidiary of Italy's Fiat S.P.A. and In 1986 was awarded an $8.2 million contract for 133 American military construction tractors. Today, Fiatallis is part of New Holland, CNH Case New Holland.
